WOW on Wednesday! :)

Hi Ladies,
Summer's almost here! School's almost through!
The kids have a party...Let's have one, too!

It's the MOM'S LAST DAY OF SCHOOL (almost) PARTY! Come celebrate with us at WOW this Wednesday, 6/4, at Dee's house (797 Hunters Glen in Fox Chase behind Kroger). Whether you have kids in school or not, come on! You know, we're going through the fruit of the Spirit together, and guess what topic we have to start our summer with...PEACE! :) How timely!

Bring food to share if you'd like, otherwise, just come! I can't wait to see you there!

June 22nd Mission Trip to Arlington Church

Good Evening,

Here are the details on our trip so far.

Since it is the summer, the vans are full with mission trips and youth activities. So, we will just meet at the church to carpool.

This week the details should be worked out between us and the pastor of the church. I will let you know those asap.

Please respond to this email if you are going and how many.

I am very excited. I think this will be neat. I hope alot of us can go so as to "kick off" our serving Christ together with our families.

More details to come.

Thanks!

Anyone available to help my friend move Sunday Morning??

My friend that has been going through the ugly divorce is moving from her home (that is being foreclosed) to a rent house this weekend.
It's my job to bring men to help move things. So I am asking for help from anyone that could be available this Sunday morning. We will be there at 9:00a.m.
, but anytime you could get there would be great. Based on past experience Eric thinks the guys could be finished in 3 hours or less.
My family will be helping her to pack and stage things on Saturday. Preparing for the big move on Sunday morning. Eric has prepared her for how things should go on Sunday morning. She's prepared to step back let the guys take over and get the job done. She's getting a moving truck.
We will bring breakfast/brunch food from Chiloso's so you can grab a bite as you get there and as you work.
She lives in Lake Highlands near Royal and Skillman. She's moving to the same basic area. I'll either give her exact address to you at church or email it to the specific folks that volunteer.
Thank you guys. I know how precious weekends and time with family are!

Church in Arlington Trip date set Update

Here is an update on the Arlington Church Trip. Since it is the summer, the vans are reserved for youth and children's things, so we won't be able to get a van.
We are still going and will just carpool. Please still email me if you are going on the 22nd and how many so we know for a head count.

Thanks!

Men's ministry updates

I hope everyone is having a great week. Here are a couple of updates on upcoming men's ministry activities:

Summer Men's Service Project: As we mentioned in class, we are going to help a local widow with her yard this summer, similar to what we did for the Cheek family last year. She is 70+ and raising her 5 yr old great-granddaughter. She lives on N. Alamo in Rockwall. We will need approximately 5-6 guys each time with mowers, edgers, blowers, etc.
Bobby and Melissa Hale mowed the yard last week, so here are dates based on a two week interval:

June 8th and 22nd (the 22nd date may need to be moved to the 21st or the evening of the 22nd since this is also the date of our mission trip to the church in Arlington) July 6th and 20th August 3rd, 17th and 31st September 14th and 28th

We will meet at her house at around 8AM on the scheduled dates (June 22nd will be different as mentioned above). Prior to each scheduled date, we'll need to get an idea of how many guys can help so we can plan accordingly.

June Men's NWNK (no wife, no kids) event: Chad Sledge is coordinating a men's Laser Tag and Whirlyball event. More details to follow, but tentatively mark June 29, 2008 on your calendar for this event.

See you Saturday.

John

Church in Arlington Trip date set

Good Morning,

The date for the church in Arlington trip is June 22nd. So far, we have 1 van reserved. It will seat
15 people. We will need a guy to volunteer to drive it. Please let me know if you would be able to. We are finalizing details, but the date is set.

Now that we have a date set, please email me three
things:
1. That you are for sure going (and how many)
2. If you are for sure needing to ride the van (and how many)
3. If you are driving

It would probably be best that those that have car seats (like myself) carpool.

I know that we did the sign up in class, but some people might have missed it. If you signed up, please still email me.

Please email me by Saturday morning so we can get a final count.

Jesus - Begining of Summer Lessons

To All,
It was awesome to be back in class this past weekend. It felt like it had been more than two weeks. Great to see friendly faces. I hope everyone enjoyed recapping our journey through 1 Corinthians. It amazes me every time we finish a series as to all that we covered. We learned a lot and I hope we can put what we learned into practice.
Now the summer begins. Our summer series is "IN HIS NAME." I am very excited to learn more about Our Father in heaven. Lets make this summer series a part of our promise to be focused on our spiritual growth. Don't get distracted this summer. Use your Home Pointe materials and these weekly lessons to grow in your faith.
Have a blessed week and I look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday.
Brian

Prayer Request Followup

As my father took a further turn for the worse this morning, Mita and the kids decided to stay here in KC for now. Late this afternoon, my dad's condition improved a lot. We are now discussing whether Mita should make the trip home tomorrow or wait. I will be here all week for certain. Thank you for your prayers, and continue them. My dad is ready for the pearly gates to open for him. We just wait for the call from the Lord.

Bob

A word of thanks!

Thank you so much for praying for my niece who has been in the hospital since May 7th with bacterial meningitis. After so many ups and downs, we were given the great news on Sunday that she was recovering well and would be going home Monday a healthy baby. By the grace of God, my sister, her husband and my niece are all relaxing at home today! :) They're thrilled and we're thrilled for them! "The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy!" (Ps 126:3). We are indeed! :)
~Jill

Prayer Request

Hi all. The family and I are in KC with my family.
As many of your know, my father is battling cancer.
He is losing the battle. I am staying here this week, while Mita intends to bring the kids home today. Our plans can change rapidly, but that is the plan right now. Please pray for a safe journey home for Mita and the kids. Help her out if you can. Please pray for a quick journey home to the Lord for my dad. That is the best prayer for him right now. Please pray that I have the strength to do what must be done, and to get through this. Thank you all.

Bob

For the guys: Tony and Angela Lazaro are moving on Saturday. There are 4 of us that are going to help Tony with the furniture (living room, dressers, etc.) on Saturday. (Knowing Tony, this might be bread or crackers and water out of a garden hose.) We plan to start around 8am Saturday morning. If you can help, please email Tony or me. Thanks.

WOW

Hi Ladies,
WOW is this Thursday night from 7-9 in our ABF room. Bring a snack if you'd like and come join us for a great evening of fun and fellowship. Our topic this month is JOY. Hope to see everyone there. Have a great day!!!

Word for the Week

First of all, I hope all of the mothers in our class had a fantastic day yesterday. It truly was a beautiful day to celebrate the vital role you have in our families.

This past Saturday was another great class and lesson! It is such a joy to see everyone moving around the class visiting with each other and making our visitors feel welcome. On top of that, Jill did a fantastic job covering a lot of "heavy" material in 1 Corinthians 15.1-34. We are going to wrap up Chapter 15 with verses 35-58 this week. Attached is the Word for the Week for you to study. Please come prepared to discuss the motivation we should derive from our belief in Christ's resurrection and the hope of our future resurrection. Please be in prayer for me as I prepare to teach Saturday night. I don't know if I can bring the same energy and excitement to the material that Jill does, but I will do my best.

See you Saturday!

John

Looking for Pictures

Dear ABF Friends,
There are several of us staying after ABF to work on the Bulletin Board for our class on Saturday night. We are in need of photos. We need photos of past mission trips, growth group gatherings, and ABF socials. I know this is short notice but if you have any that you could bring or e-mail to me by Saturday we would love to have them. My e-mail address is tacruz@sbcglobal.net Natalie Thomas, Pam Gatton and Angela Ferguson can also take your photos in class. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer. If you write your name of the back of them we will return them when it is time to change things up. Have a wonderful time looking up your memories for us and we will see you this Saturday.
Blessings,
Theresa Cruz
PS> In the next couple of weeks we will be working on getting pictures of couples as well as families for our board as well, so don't be surprised if I ask you to smile while I'm holding a camera pointed at you.

Word of the Week

ABF Family:

I don't know about you, but I thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship and teaching this past week. Brian, thank you for reminding us about the mission of Home Pointe and the resources available to us as we intentionally strive to build strong families at home. Please bring your completed Home Pointe appraisals back to class this week so we can collect them and turn them in to the church.

This week, we have the treat of hearing Jill Sledge teach the lesson. Attached is the Word of the Week. Please take time this week to prepare your heart and mind for class. Jill always does a phenomenal job in preparing to teach, so let's give the same devotion to preparing to learn.

One last thing, let's continue the great fellowship with one another in class. Wear your name tag and, rather than sit down when you come in the room, stand up and move around the class. Find a visitor or someone you don't really know and visit with them a little. If you don't know what to talk about, here is a simple FORM of conversation:

F - ask about their family (how many kids, how many years married, hometown, etc.)
O - ask about their occupation
R - ask about recreational activities they enjoy (you might find out you enjoy similar activities)
M - share the message that you are glad they are in our class.

Just as we strive to be intentional at home, let's be intentionally friendly and welcoming in class. See you Saturday.

Man Church Update/Gideons International Ministry

Good afternoon Men!
I wanted to share a local opportunity to serve God and distribute His Word to others.
I joined The Gideons International last year and have experienced so many blessings that words can not explain.
This email is to invite all men to be a part of this humble ministry. You may best be familiar with the Gideon Bibles in hotel, motels and hospitals.
We meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Shore’s Country Club for 2 hours. Many of us meet each Saturday morning at LakePointe Church in room A138 from 7:30-8:00 AM for prayer.
Feel free to join us each week or for the monthly meeting. This ministry will cost you $40 per year and if this a stumbling block I will pay it for you.
Be blessed and join our ministry team. You will be blessed!!!

UPDATED: Man Church update

Guys: Slight change to the needs for this month's Man Church. Since there is a group of people that already distribute church announcements/materials to the ABFs, Lake Pointe has agreed to distribute the promo materials with the usual packets of information. Result is we no longer need to help distribute the promo cards to the ABFs on Saturday night. Greg has asked that we still handle the tear down of the scaffolding and TVs. A couple of guys have already volunteered to help with the tear down, but we probably need 4-5 more guys. If you are available to help, please let me know. We are currently looking at Tuesday evening to do the tear down, but we can adjust this based on when the most guys are available. Thanks in advance for your willingness to serve. Greg and the rest of the Man Church leadership continue to express their appreciation to our class for our service with this ministry.

...is a place where men can laugh and have fun.Hamburgers served at 6:00pm.

...is a place where you can bring your un-churched friends and they can see that Christian men are normal.

MAN CHURCH will encourage men to be men. MAN CHURCH will encourage men to be servant leaders in their homes - recognizing that, in Christ, all are equal, and all should be loved. MAN CHURCH will teach men how to love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength.

Food of The Month

Good Afternoon,

The food of the month is canned fruit.

Also, we will be watching the Missions Moment in class Saturday.

Last night at the ABF Huddle we decided to kick off our serving together with an outing to a church in Arlington on an upcoming Sunday morning. We would go and worship with the church members. They are from Ghana. It will be a neat and exciting time for us as a class to worship together with another culture. Details are still being ironed out, but please keep this in mind.

Young ABF Missions Committee

Attention Kindergarten - 3rd Grade Parents

Attention Parents of Kindergarten through 3rd Grade Students:

May is going to be a very important time in our Kids Worship and Bible Study hours as we teach our children about God’s desire for us to be PATIENT.

Our biblical approach to this principal is taught through the following Bible stories:

Week One – Joshua’s and Caleb’s 40 Year Wait (Numbers 13:1-14:1-38)
Week Two – The Israelites Try to Take the Promised Land (Numbers 14:39-44)
Week Three – Rahab and the Spies (Joshua 1-2)
Week Four – The Fall of Jericho (Joshua 3:1-14; 6:1-25)

Our memory verse this month is Psalm 27:14, "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord".

We appreciate your reinforcement of these lessons at home and your help in reminding your student throughout the month of May that PATIENCE means “waiting till later for what you want now”. To help illustrate this message we are sending an Air Head candy home with your student the first weekend (May 3/4). During Kids Worship & Bible Study they will be instructed to save this treat until the end of the month (specifically May 25th). As they meet the challenge we hope you will celebrate with your child their patience in a way that will help them remember it. You may wish to add another treat to the first one, or perhaps another reward that is appropriate. The point of the exercise is to set kids up for success and encouragement. No one should feel like they failed.

We look forward to continuing to partner with you on your student’s spiritual journey. Please let us know if we can in anyway further assist you as a family. To register for our upcoming summer activities, visit www.lpkids.com
