Prayer Request followup

Hey guys, I talked to Shana a little bit ago. They have sent Mike to an ENT to have him checked there. So he is not at the hospital anymore. Shana said that they were not sure what was going on. They tried to drain the ear by making a few cuts. So he has a few stitches and a compression cast on the ear. He will go back to the ENT next Friday. Thank you for all the prayers and e-mails. I know the Murphy's appreciate it. Jenn

Prayer Request

Hi guys! I just got a call from Shana Murphy about Mike. She is taking him to the hospital in Rowlett today. He is still having trouble with his ear and other things have come up. Please be in prayer for Mike and Shana as they go through this ordeal. Also please pray for their kids. James and Jessie have been sick with a fever and stomach trouble. Please pray for recovery of the whole family.

I will update you on what they find out as I hear from them. Thanks Jenn Tolbert

Collection for the Wickhams

Please continue to keep Bob, Mita and their family in your prayers during this time. The vistitation service for Bob's dad is tonight and a graveside service tomorrow. To show our love and support for them, we will be taking up a collection Sat night during ABF. Bob's dad did not want flowers, but rather donations to their home church. We will be sending a donation in his father's name and will also give them a tree to plant in honor of him. Thanks so much for all you do!!!

Final details on Arlington Church (A Life)

Good Afternoon,

I have the final details on this trip. It will be so neat. I hope you can join us.

We will meet at Lakepointe at 9am to caravan. Since our church has services and it is crowded, let's meet in the back parking lot (we will be there in a white Impala). The service starts at 10:30 am. I will have directions to the church that morning in case we get separated. After the service they will provide a lunch for us, which I have been told is delicious. This will give us a chance to worship with and meet the people there. It is an immigrant church, so most members are there straight from Africa. The Gomez ABF will also be there. Jeff, our contact person, said to dress business casual.

I will be emailing him on Sunday a head count of exactly how many are going so they know how much food to prepare. I will get a count Saturday night in class, but if you aren't going to be in class and want to go, please email me (pamela_gatton@sbcglobal.net) by Saturday and let me know how many are going. You can also just reply to all to this email.

I would like to encourage you to really try to go. It is going to be such an exciting experience.

When our church gets ready to send mission teams to Africa, those teams go and visit this church, so it should be very authentic.

Thanks!
Pam Gatton

Prayer Request for Jennifer

Oh my! You just wouldn't believe what we accomplished Tuesday evening. What a burden it lifted off Jennifer. I looked like a home by the time we finished. But you know how it is moving in, getting one room straightened generally means you've messed another one up. In our case that was true, but it is looking so much better. Thank you to the wonderful ladies and the young ladies that helped!
Thursday Jennifer has a court date. Not sure what is supposed to happen here. However I know she would appreciate the prayer. I really believe Satan tries to cause as much destruction in family court as possible. I know you don't know Jennifer so I don't ask you to necessarily pray that things will go her way, just pray that God's hand will be on the situation. Pray that the Judge is a godly judge and makes the best determination for the children here. Pray that the judge is discerning and fair. Pray for God's will for this family.
Thank you all for praying!
-Cindy

Prayer Request

ABF Family:

Please be in prayer for Mike Murphy over the coming days. He is experiencing swelling in and around one of his ears. He is scheduled to see an ENT specialist this Friday. Pray that God will ease the pain and give the medical professionals the wisdom to properly diagnose and treat the swelling. Also, Mike is having on-going pain and discomfort in his ribs that so far has not responded to the treatments tried to date. He will soon have a scan performed to see if something is going on that was not picked up in the initial X-rays. Please continue to lift up Mike and his search for employment. As you can imagine, these medical issues present additional challenges to his search.

John

Bob's Dad passed away today.

Dear ABF Family,
Thank you for praying for Bob Wickham's Dad. He ended his battle with cancer today and was welcomed home into Jesus' loving arms. Please continue to pray for Bob's family as they bear the sorrow of losing this loved one and as they make preparations for the funeral. Please pray safe travel for Bob and Mita and the kids (Tony, Andy, Alyssa & Alana) as they drive to Kansas City tomorrow.

Reminder Tuesday work night Helping Jennifer

I just wanted to remind all the ladies about the work night for Jennifer tonight.

I will be leaving Rockwall at 4:00 to go to her house. ****Note from editor****Please contact Cindy's Cell for instructions to Jennifer's Home. This has been edited for security reasons due to the accessibility of this site to the internet.

The schedule is every Tuesday in the month of June we will have these work nights.

This week only I will be going tomorrow during the day if anyone can go with me.

Thank you for blessing Jennifer and me as well. I just cried on the way home last night thinking about how beautiful is the body of Christ... Everyone's different. There's been a hand here, a foot there... People that have never met this lady, and will probably never see her again praying for her and breaking a sweat to help her. I am honored to witness it!

Blessings to you all,

-Cindy

The Rock

All,

Please join me in studying The Rock. See you all on Saturday.

Be Blessed,

Brian

I Am Truly Blessed by You All

Family,

Please read through the email below. Some of you might have seen this but it deserves sharing. As a teacher, I can talk and pray all that I want but it is the ABF Family that is Christ's hands and feet. Thank you for blessing me and as you read below others around you. Words can not express how I feel as I read the words below.

Brian

Brian/Joey,

Wanted to pass along this encouraging email regarding your ABF. A true picture of what it means to share the love of Christ. My favorite quote is from Saint Francis of Assissi....Preach the gospel at all times -- If necessary, use words.

You guys are speaking loudly. Thanks for your leadership.

Regards,

Rick

Thanks from Ms. Farmer

ABF Family - I just wanted to forward the below emails (one from Bobby, one from Glenda at LP) to you so you can see how much of an impact a few minutes of service can have. John,
See below, The timeline isn't correct but read the impact we can have by just listening and looking out for people in need.
This is the impact that the men & woman of our class have made upon this woman in 20 minutes worth of time. The time given up by the Men and there families was well worth it to Mrs. Farmer.
Please pray that the our men' ministry has a great impact on our community and pray for Barbara and Macy.Pray that the courts will allow Barbara to adopt Macy.

Helping Jennifer

Hello everyone,

I wanted to give everyone an update on Jennifer.

The move has not gone so well. The stress of everything in her life has really put Jennifer in survival mode at best. Her blood pressure is so high that she's having nose bleeds and her hands are tingling. Her doctor is having trouble controlling it.

Progress is being made on the new house and it will someday feel wonderfully homey. For now, though not too many boxes have been unpacked. We were there Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Everyone's working diligently, but... She started out very behind. We packed more clothes dirty than clean. You know, life is just overwhelming.

I want to say thanks for the guys that helped. Jennifer has gone on and on about what a blessing it was. I also want to say thanks for those who have prayed. I think we saw one of the times God intervened. The guy from the bank drove by to get the keys from Jennifer. He saw the "moving operation" and felt compassion for her and could not ask her for the keys, so she still has a few more days to get the rest of her stuff out. Oh, yes, did I mention the first house is still not empty... We went there today and after 5 minutes, she had to get out of there and we moved nothing... I would say there's a half days work to get all the final junk out...

I know some people might think, this is Jennifer's problem, her mess and she needs to take care of it herself. We all have problems and we all have a busy life...
And I've put a lot of thought into that. I know it is possible to do too much for someone, enabling them. I guess the Boundaries book describes it as we each have our own little red wagon that we have carry ourselves. But sometimes you get more than your wagon should have in it... That's when Christ says we should help each other... Come along side help carry the burden. Jennifer has more than a normal load. She doesn't need to just figure this out on her own and hop too it. She needs help finding her feet again. She needs to get out from under the burden so she can breath again. So she has a little energy to spare so she can love on her children, have more energy for them. Work on mending her heart so she can the child of God he designed her to be.

I'm sorry, I'm slightly passionate about this. I guess because I've lived it before. When Eric was deployed the first time, I had an infant, we had just moved, my dad and brother almost died that year, and my mom had a broken ankle... I could hardly function. The house was never unpacked. The house was never clean. Jonathan ran around pretty much being the boss of his own self... I was under such a mountain, I couldn't find my way out. I humbled myself to send out an email asking my ABF for help, I even went so far as to list the specific things I needed. moving this, cleaning that, hanging this... I'm not saying no one helped me, but it was not much. By the end of the year, I guess some people were worn out with helping... I think that's where Jennifer's closer friends are now. I slowly, slowly, slowly, pulled my way out. But I'm just certain, help then would have made such a difference in the course of the next year...

So, if anyone is still reading at this point... Here's what I would like to do...

1.) I need a small team, preferably some of my teenage friends to help move the rest of the stuff out of the old house on Sunday.

2.) I plan to go to Jennifer's house on Tuesday nights for the rest of the month of June to help work. I would like for any ladies and/or their children that could help to please come one week. I will go THIS Wednesday 6/11 during the day to help get a big jump start. If you could go I would love the help. Jennifer won't be there, she'll be at work.

3.) Most important, Pray! Pray for Jennifer's health, pray she can find some relaxation to help with the blood pressure issues. Pray for the kids. Jared and David the boys are having the hardest time. And Jennifer just barely has enough energy to survive, much less pour into them and direct them. Kate is the girls name. Pray that Jennifer will find good childcare arrangements for summer. Jared is 12, but he's not responsible enough to be at home alone, much less in charge. This next week Jennifer's mom will watch them, but Jennifer's mom is 90, so that can't be her responsibility.

Thank you all for reading this.

Mowing Sunday morning 6-8-08 More Followup

Like I was telling some of the guys this morning, back in Kansas I would be driving a combine working a quarter, and I would watch a custom cutting crew pull in on the quarter next to us. They would unload 3 to 5 machines and wipe out a quarter before I lunch. I always thought it looked like what the plague of locust must have looked like the the Egyptians.

Today, we saw gods locust at work again. It was a beautiful site. All you women can be proud of the work that happened this morning. I was humbled by the whole experience.

Cheers!

Darrin

Mowing Sunday morning 6-8-08 Followup

We had 9 guys show up this morning and had the yard mowed, edged and cleaned up in around 20 minutes. Mrs. Farmer popped her head out at one point and reiterated her thankfulness for our help. She made the comment that she could not believe that a group of men would do this for her. What an awesome opportunity to minister to her and her great-granddaughter!

Thanks to the following guys for helping:

Bobby Hale
Darrin Thomas
Dale Stolman
Joe Cruz
Chad Sledge
Bob Wickham
Tim Langston
Eric Martinson

One of the guys threw out a challenge to have it done in 15 minutes next time. Come join us and help us meet this challenge. The next time will be around June 22nd. We may have to adjust this date a little depending on the details for the class's visit to the Arlington church on the 22nd. Thanks for serving.

The Seven Steps

7

Seven Steps to Living Like Jesus

Work through the following self-evaluation to commit to living for others.

Step 1 Recognize who is in control of your life

Who is in charge of your life?

Circle one: God Yourself A Spouse A Boss Satan

What must happen to give the Lord control?

Step 2 Make Jesus Lord of your life

Make a list of your priorities:

Are they in proper order according to God’s plan? If so, are you living this way?

Step 3 Practice the “Golden Rule”

How do you treat those you know well?

How do you treat strangers?

Step 4 Live Christ

Are you humble?

Would others consider you humble?

How willing are you to serve others?

Step 5 Use your gift(s) for God

What is/are your spiritual gift(s)?

How are you using them?

How can you use them?

Step 6 Give yourself away

How much time in a given week do you use for others? How can it increase?

How much of your finances are you giving away? How can it increase?

Step 7 Glorify God

Is your life glorifying God? How?

What needs to change to bring God more glory?

The Deliverer

Class,
It was great to see everyone in class this Saturday. I am sure that everyone is anticipating a wonderful summer ahead. .It is hard to believe how fast the year has gone.
I realize that the summer is typically for getting out of routines, but lets be crazy and get into a few routines this summer. Lets all use the Home Pointe tools to be focused on our spiritual growth for us and our families. Secondly, lets foucs on discovering who Jesus is to you. Lets all get beyond speaking about Him and get to know Him. Go from Jesue in the Bible to the most important thing in your life. He wants to be your all and all. In order for you to do that you need to have a relationship with Him.
Begin this week and read the word of the week and walk through the "Seven Steps to Living Like Jesus." Lets encourage each other this summer to prepare for class, attend all that you can (make it a priority), participate and lets grow this summer.
In His precious Name,
Brian
